A testnet faucet is a free service that sends you test tokens on a test network. Those tokens have no real-world value, but they let you try swaps, staking, bridges, and apps on a new chain, which is exactly the activity many projects later reward.

Faucets fall into three broad types. Official project faucets are run by the chain or project itself and are usually the most reliable. Aggregator faucets cover many networks from one page and save time. Gated faucets ask you to hold a small mainnet balance or verify social accounts before dripping, which keeps bots out but slows genuine users down.

If a faucet is dry or rate-limited, do not keep hammering it. Try an alternative faucet for the same network, check the project's Discord or community faucet channel, or wait for the daily reset, since most faucets refill on a fixed schedule.

The most common beginner mistake is treating testnet activity like a checklist to blast through in one afternoon. Projects increasingly filter out wallets funded from the same source that complete every task in a single burst, so spread activity over days or weeks and use each app the way a real user would.

Keep a simple log of what you did: network, app, date, and wallet used. When a project later announces a checker or snapshot, that log tells you in minutes whether you are likely eligible, instead of forcing you to reconstruct months of activity from memory.

Testnet farming costs no real money, but it is not risk-free. Fake faucet sites exist, and some ask you to connect a wallet and sign approvals. A real faucet only needs your public testnet address, never a signature, seed phrase, or mainnet payment.

Farming several testnets at once gets chaotic without a routine. A practical approach is to pick three to five networks, claim from their faucets on a fixed schedule, and keep a small reserve of test tokens in each wallet so a dry faucet never blocks you. Many faucets allow one claim per day, so claiming at the same time each morning turns a scattered chore into a five-minute habit.

It also helps to know which faucets require a social account or a small mainnet balance before you start, so you can complete those verifications once rather than discovering them mid-session. Keep your testnet wallets separate from your main wallet, and never reuse a mainnet seed phrase for testnet activity. Test tokens have no value, but the habits you build around them, checking official sources, verifying domains, and protecting your keys, are the same habits that protect real funds later.
